Mark Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin, has tabled a parliamentary question asking whether the museum could be used to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) through its exhibits.

He also asks if other museums could offer similar activities.

Stuart Andrew, minister for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, said the RAF Museum attracts 900,000 visitors a year to its Cosford and London sites.

“Around 64,000 of its visitors are young people who participate in formal learning sessions, including stem subjects, history and literacy,” he said.

Mr Andrew said that in December the Cosford Museum received money from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a program called Inspiring Everyone. This would include a new learning center linked to an innovative exhibition focusing on the vital national role played by the RAF over the past four decades.

He said more broadly the department supports museum programs, including education, through Arts Council England.

“Arts Council England has granted National Portfolio Organization status to 82 museums and museum sector organizations in its next investment cycle 2023-26,” it said.

“Museums are also eligible for National Lottery project grants.”
